A newly-released map reveals some of Australia’s most peculiar place names – and they’re all fair dinkum, dinky-di place names – not made-up names!
The Strumpshaw, Tincleton and Giggleswick Marvellous Map of Actual Australian Place Names is a 66cm x 66cm wall map featuring over 1,000 of the funniest, rudest and quirkiest – and 100% authentic – Australian towns, streets, mountains, lakes and all manner of geographic features ‘whose names may cause your older relatives to spit out their tea violently’.
And South Australia has its fair share of humorous names, many of which seem to relate to the male appendage, the posterior and associated bodily functions. Here’s a piece of the map:
